Sunset Spritz
I like my drinks simple, but effective. This one does both as well as being beautiful to look at. It’s perfect for a hot summer day, whether at a picnic or lounging on the porch.
Recipe below can be made alcoholic if so desired.
Tips and Tricks
What alcohol to use?
If you’re adding alcohol to this, the best option would be gin. It blends well with everything else and doesn’t noticeably alter the flavor of the drink. You could also do vodka.
Can I use other oranges?
Feel free to use whatever oranges you have available! This is a great drink to make if you have some oranges on their last legs that need to be used fast. Blood oranges are always beautiful, which is why we went with them for this recipe, but always feel free to make the drink yours!
Other ingredients:
You can of course add anything you like to this recipe. Ginger goes exceptionally well with this drink and isn’t overwhelming: the perfect addition. But play around and see what other elements go well!
Ingredients:
(For two drinks)
ice cubes
Juice from two blood oranges (or about ½ cup)
4 tsp maple syrup
¼ tsp ground ginger
2 cups sparkling water, divided
For alcoholic version:
4 tbsp gin, divided
Directions:
Start by taking your glasses and putting as many ice cubes as you like inside them. Place them in the fridge to let cool while you mix the other ingredients.
Take a small bowl and mix together the blood orange juice, the maple syrup, and the ginger. Stir so everything is mixed evenly and taste to be sure everything is to your liking. Add more of whatever you feel is lacking. (**If you’re adding alcohol, add it now).
Taking the cups out of the refrigerator, divide the juice mixture evenly between both glasses. Add a cup of sparkling water to each cup. Garnish with a slice of blood orange.
Enjoy!
